FrogCMS – Content Management Simplified

There are literally thousands of content management systems available on the web. Many of them free, many of them not. Each boasting more compelling features than the next. In the disarray of all the competition I found a little content management system named simply FrogCMS. Features are great, interface is awesome, and simplicity is its middle name.

FrogCMS is a content management system built to simplify the process of creating and organizing pages/posts while maintaining essential CMS features. FrogCMS spawned from phpRadiant and was just released (stable) August 2008.

While remaining fairly lightweight (1027K unpacked) FrogCMS sacrifices no features. Simple user management and permissions, file management, and a great drag and drop hierarchy organization structure. Completely customizable themes, create your own “snippets” and insert into any page easily. Create separate themes to be used with one page over another. The administration interface flaunts it’s bare bones simplicity to allow you to make any changes with a few clicks.

FrogCMS is a great alternative to feature-bloated content management system, and a must for any web developer looking for the next best simple CMS to work with.

Just what I was looking for. I’ll give it for a testrun asap.

    Thanks!

  3. Hey,

that’s quite good CMS, but it’s a port of RoR based RadiantCMS – take a look at this site: http://radiantcms.org/

    Cheers…

  4. radiant cms is develop using ruby not php, so you cant compare this to php based cms.

  5. Might want to look at ModX / EtoMite.

  6. I’m a big fan of MODx (http://modxcms.com/), which is now my default CMS for everything really. It’s as simple or as complex as you need it to be, although the default Manager backend is not as user-friendly as it could / needs to be for clients.

Looking at Frog, the Administration backend looks very straightforward, potentially much better for clients. The Templating also looks sensible and straightforward although my initial impression is that it’s not quite as versatile as MODx. There’s always going to be a trade-off between ease of use and versatility though, and some projects will favour one over the other.

The only real downside I can see is that Frog’s plug-in list is quite a bit smaller than that of MODx.

Frog’s current community (and therefore support) is also a bit small (in the hundreds compared to 12k+ for MODx), though I imagine this will grow quite rapidly given the solid foundation. That of course will lead to more plug-ins!

For simpler projects I reckon it’s still a great option. Definitely going to keep an eye on this one.

Great find, I love this site. :)

  7. I’m using this cms on my website and it’s a great cms. It’s easy to manage and add pages.

  8. I love Frog’s admin page, a bit like WordPress simple interface. Easy to manage file (file manager support), theme (layout support) and pages (snippets support)…
